We all work well together. We know each other’s strengths and we are there to support each other. Everyone has a role to play, everyone matters in this firm, and that’s one of the things that sets us apart. When we all pull together, everyone – clients and staff – shares in the success of MacDonald Lynch.

Elaine MacDonald, Senior Partner
"As a team, we have a wealth of experience and legal skills and, most importantly, we all have the enthusiasm and the determination to succeed and provide the best possible service for our clients."

After graduating in Law from Strathclyde University, Elaine worked in business development for several years. She decided to enter the legal profession and completed the Dip LP in 2011.

Elaine has worked in private practice for over 12 years and has a broad range of skills and experience in property sale and purchase, commercial leases, wills and estates, power of attorney, divorce and separation.

Elaine is determined that MacDonald Lynch should offer a personalised, approachable service to clients.

Elaine shares her life with her young daughter and their dog Milo. She is a keen fitness enthusiast, which gives her the energy and drive to deliver for her clients.

Robert Telfer, Partner
"This is an exciting time for MacDonald Lynch as we build relations with new and existing clients and support the business to grow."

Robert obtained a PhD in Law at the University of Glasgow before qualifying as a solicitor. In practice, he advises primarily on conveyancing, wills, power of attorney and executries.

In previous employment, Robert worked for a leading Glasgow estate agency. He gained in-depth market knowledge and is well-placed to advise on all aspects of buying and selling.

Robert is a car and pick-up vehicle enthusiast, having attended the Paris and Geneva motor shows as well as the Ford F:150 factory in Detroit. He is the proud owner of Hadley, a two year old blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier named in homage to one of his favourite films, Aliens.

He was appointed Partner in July 2022.

Colin Carr, Partner
"I come from the south side. Hampden Park and Queen’s Park used to be my stomping ground when I was younger, so I’m enthusiastic to develop this new business in the area where I grew up."

Colin is a graduate of the University of Glasgow. After eight years as a sole practitioner in Rutherglen, Colin became one of the founding partners of Carr Berman Crichton of Rutherglen and Glasgow. More recently he has worked as a freelance business development consultant for other legal practices. Colin deals in domestic property, wills, power of attorney and estates. He regularly conducts home, hospital and hospice visits for the infirm or elderly. He also deals with claims for mis-sold financial products and was instrumental in bringing forward PPI claims in Scotland, acting for some 30,000 clients and recovering £50 million.

Colin lives in the south side of Glasgow with his wife Yvonne and has three grown up children.

Tracey Matheson, Senior Paralegal
"We’re an incredibly good blend – to have those different experience levels, and those different age levels, is a really positive thing. All of us are going to bring a lot of energy to MacDonald Lynch because we're so determined to make it work. I might be approaching 60, but I’m going to throw all of my energy at it."

Tracey Matheson studied English Literature at the University of Edinburgh but left to join Registers of Scotland (ROS) as a non graduate direct entrant. She later completed her degree through the Open University. At ROS, she gained a deeper understanding of the law and worked in a variety of roles handling customer services, Books of Council and Session and legal casework. Following redundancy, Tracey returned to University to retrain as a paralegal. More than six years into her new career, Tracey continues to expand her legal skills and experience in all aspects of conveyancing.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time in the Dumfries and Galloway countryside with her family.

Gillian Coyle, Branch Coordinator
"I'm in such a fortunate position to be starting University soon and starting in a new, exciting firm. I’m an assistant to a solicitor at the moment, but the aim is obviously to go on and become a solicitor myself. Working here gives me a good grounding for university because I’ve got on the job experience. I'm just so excited."

Gillian has experience working in all areas of residential conveyancing and private client matters. She enjoys helping buyers navigate the property market and is committed to delivering excellent client service.

In previous employment, Gillian worked as a cashier for a major bank where she processed a high volume of customer transactions.

Gillian is studying law at the University of Glasgow and intends to train to become a solicitor.

Aylie MacDonald, Legal Assistant
"I’m really enjoying working at MacDonald Lynch as everyone has been really friendly and helpful. I’ve enjoyed learning all the new legal terms and processes and it has been good to get experience in the workplace."

Aylie is currently studying International Business and French at Strathclyde University.

Liz Coyle, Consultant
"I am flattered to be retained as a consultant in the new firm, and delighted to be working with the dynamic team at MacDonald Lynch."

After completing an honours degree in English & History at Glasgow University in 1980, Liz entered into a pre-diploma training contract and worked full time while doing her Law Society exams. She returned to Glasgow University to undertake her Diploma in Legal Practice and qualified as a solicitor in 1985.

In a varied career, she worked in a medium sized firm in Clydebank, then a sole practitioner’s office in Glasgow and then to Bird Semple Fyfe Ireland in Edinburgh which, at the time, was the largest law firm in Scotland.

After living in the United States for several years, she returned to Scotland to work as a solicitor, eventually launching her own firm Archer Coyle in 2012 with husband Gordon.

Liz specialises in conveyancing, wills, powers of attorney and executries.

The professional service delivered by Elaine MacDonald and Lorna Fernie is outstanding. I was selling my flat and all costs and procedures were explained clearly. This is the third time our family have used Elaine as our solicitor when buying and selling property. Couldn't recommend MacDonald Lynch more.
